37th Coober Pedy Opal Festival Announced
Preparations are now officially underway for the 37th Coober Pedy Opal Festival, with organisers today announcing the return of the town’s biggest annual community celebration, set to take place 12, 13 and 14 June.
The festival has long been regarded as the largest community event on the Coober Pedy calendar, bringing locals and visitors together to celebrate the town’s unique culture, its opal mining heritage and the diverse community that calls the outback town home.
Each year the event transforms the town into a hive of activity, with entertainment, stalls, games and attractions designed to appeal to all ages. It is one of the few times each year when the whole community can come together to celebrate what makes Coober Pedy special, offering families, children and visitors a weekend full of colour, laughter and outback hospitality.
This year’s festival theme, “Play Colour,” is fittingly Coober Pedy. Known around the world as the home of precious opal, colour is at the heart of the town’s identity — from the dazzling flashes of opal pulled from the ground to the vibrant characters and culture that make the community so unique.
While the full program is still being finalised, organisers say acts and activities will be announced progressively as they are confirmed. Locals can expect a mix of entertainment, community activities and festival traditions that have made the Opal Festival a highlight of the outback events calendar.
One of the most anticipated highlights will once again be the spectacular fireworks display on Saturday night, lighting up the desert sky and drawing crowds from across the region.
Festival organisers have also acknowledged the generosity of local businesses and sponsors, whose support plays a crucial role in making the event possible each year.
“Events like the Opal Festival simply wouldn’t happen without the incredible support of our sponsors and community partners,” organisers said. “Their generosity helps bring the festival to life and ensures the community can enjoy a fantastic weekend together.”
As planning ramps up, the 37th Coober Pedy Opal Festival is shaping up to be another celebration of everything that makes the town special — its people, its opal heritage and its unmistakable outback spirit.
Further announcements on entertainment, activities and program details are expected in the coming weeks.
