A 21-year-old Victorian driver has lost his licence after allegedly returning a blood alcohol reading almost four times the legal limit at Coober Pedy.

Police were called to Hutchison Street just before 8.30pm on Monday, 21 September, following reports that the driver of a Toyota utility appeared intoxicated behind the wheel.

Coober Pedy patrols located the vehicle and subjected the driver to a breath test, which police allege returned a reading of 0.191.

The man was reported for drink-driving and issued with an immediate 12-month loss of licence. The Toyota was also impounded for 28 days.

He will be summonsed to appear in the Coober Pedy Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police said they would continue targeting drink-driving and other driving offences, warning motorists that choosing to drive while over the limit placed lives at risk.
