Two Coober Pedy men have been issued with three-month instant losses of licence after allegedly testing positive for methamphetamine during separate police traffic stops over the weekend.
Police stopped a Land Rover on Hutchison Street just before 8pm on Saturday, 24 October. The driver, a 36-year-old local man, allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test for methamphetamine and was issued with an immediate three-month licence suspension.
In a separate incident just after 5.30pm on Sunday, 25 October, police stopped a Mitsubishi four-wheel drive on Matrix Avenue after checks indicated the vehicle was unregistered.
Police say the driver, a 30-year-old local man, also returned a positive roadside test for methamphetamine. He was reported for driving an unregistered vehicle and issued with a three-month instant loss of licence. His vehicle was also defected.
Both men may face drug-driving charges pending the results of forensic analysis.
Police reminded motorists that driving while affected by drugs endangers all road users, warning that those who drive after consuming illicit drugs risk detection and penalties.
